I know a lot of people that have mentioned to me, that they don’t think they need business websites any more. That their social media is quite sufficient for what they do. In some select cases, they could be right. Everything depends upon the business services and/or products, coupled with their customer base. But for the most part, a business website is not only crucial, but expected by a business’ customer base and potential customers. Here are some compelling reasons to having a business website.
Your Customers Expect It
Almost any legitimate business has a presence on the web. This includes their social media as well, but at the core is their website. When websites were expensive to design, and you had to hire a sophisticated and expensive programmer, then it didn’t make a lot of sense for a lot of business. But now, with inexpensive hosting and platforms like WordPress and WIX, that’s not a show stopper any more. When potential customers see that mybusiness.com on your stationary and business cards, it goes a long way in telling them, you’re not going anywhere.
Your Competitors Have Business Websites
Take a look around at your competitors who are the most successful. It would be almost shocking to find that they didn’t have a corporate or business website online. They have already done their homework and built trusting relationships with customers and potential buyers. If a potential customer is looking around for products or services and they see your competitor is established and you’re not, the sales trends clearly show they will lean more towards your competitor.
You Control the Content
While services like Yelp can certainly help your business, there is always the possibility that a rogue review can damage your brand. With your own website, this is one problem you won’t face. In addition, you don’t have to be concerned about guidelines or being punished for how and what you post. With a solid plan for content, you deliver the look and feel of your brand without being hampered by other platforms.
You Can Showcase Your Products and Services
Some forms of social media do an adequate job of showcasing what you do, or what you sell. But they will never be equal to the manner in which you can exploit this on your own site. There are no limitations to how much you can portray. Also, the branding is totally up to you, and not the branding of the platform you may choose to use.
Blogging Will Bring You Traffic You Cannot Get Elsewhere
It’s important to provide valuable to content to your customers or potential buyers. Blogging has been, and will continue to drive the traffic narrative for quite some time. If someone likes your social media page or profile, your value added content will fall into the conveyor belt of all of the other content that pours into social media platforms. By creating value added content, you create your own informative channel for your customer base. When a customer decides to sign up for your updated content, you are speaking to them each and every time you provide something new. There is no substitute for this long arm of branding.
These are just a few reasons why it’s important to build your company website. There are not the only ones, but I feel like they are certainly the most important ones.
